Join the Schenectady Wintersports Club for a historic celebration!

The Schenectady Wintersports Club will host a special unveiling ceremony for a historical marker commemorating alpine skiing on Yantaputchaberg, the hillside where organized skiing first took root in Schenectady County nearly a century ago.

The unveiling & celebration will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, 2:30 PM at 1199 Crawford Road, Schenectady, NY. The ceremony coincides with Maple Ski Ridge’s Fall Festival, creating a unique opportunity for the community to celebrate the area’s past and present ski culture.

The project was made possible through the generosity of Michael Karl, a 6th great-grandson of Jan Mabee and owner of the property where the marker now stands.

Local officials, historians, and ski community leaders will speak at the unveiling. The program will also acknowledge the donors and members of SWC who supported the marker project.

The public is encouraged to join SWC in celebrating at two events on October 11:

The Schenectady Wintersports Club, in partnership with Northern NY Paddlers, invites paddlers of all kinds to join the Seneca Chief Bicentennial Flotilla as it passes through Schenectady County. Together, we’ll paddle the Mohawk River from Lock 9 Park to Mohawk Harbor on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, celebrating both the Erie Canal’s 200th anniversary and our own club’s tradition of adventure on water and snow.  The calendar lists their arrival at Mohawk Harbor around 3pm and they seem to be on schedule.

This is more than a paddle — it’s a chance to strengthen our ties as a community of outdoor enthusiasts, connect SWC and NNYP members, and experience the river in a once-in-a-lifetime way.

Schenectady County paddle boat access to the Mohawk River ramps from west to east are:

    • Lock 9 Park below Lock 9 at NYState Rte 103 --- arriving from Amsterdam and Montgomery County
    • Dave Bill's Meadow ramp enter @ 1398 Main St (AKA NYState 5S) Rotterdam Junction --- opposite Woestina Church nice ramp plenty of parking
    • Kiwanis Park NYState 5S at Plotterkill parking somewhat limited -- opposite the Hungry Chicken fast food facility

    Go Stowe !

SWC is pleased announce our plan to host the 2025 Early Season Ski Clinic (formerly known as Bomber's) at Stowe Mountain Resort.  This year we are asking you to make a commitment with a refundable deposit.  The reason for this early commitment is a recent change in lesson pricing and reservation policy by Vail Resorts, parent company of Stowe Mountain Resort.

We are also narrowing the Clinic to Saturday and Sunday to make it more accessible to skiers with weekday work commitments. The plan is to offer full-day lessons both days for a minimum of four groups of no more than nine skiers each. Availability of snowboard lessons will depend upon sufficient demand.

When and Where: Friday, December 12 through Sunday, December 14, 2025 Stowe, VT area

Who?  The Clinic is sponsored by the Schenectady Wintersports Club (SWC)

in conjunction with the Stowe Mountain Resort Ski School. Lessons will be available for skiers (and snowboarders depending upon sufficient demand), with a maximum student to instructor ratio of 9 to 1.  Our group planning may allow us to add a "Never-Ever/ Beginner" level instruction group if there is sufficient demand.

What's the Plan? Kick off the weekend Friday Night with a Welcome Party mixer at the SWC Clubhouse in Waterbury Center.

Where will we stay? Clinic lodging will be available at the SWC Clubhouse in Waterbury Center.  Non-members will receive a free one year membership in SWC which includes access to the SWC Clubhouse for the 2025-2026 ski season.  Lodging at the Clubhouse will be $40 per person per night. This includes the Friday party, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday as well as Saturday night dinner.  Children 17 and under stay for free in the same room with their parents.  More details on lodging and meals will be sent once we have confirmed all attendees.

Registration:  Complete your form for the clinic through this announcement using the Register button. We are asking everyone who is interested to sign up and pay a refundable deposit.

How Much:  Pricing for the lessons will be based on the number of participants in each lesson grouping.  Our best estimate for two full day lessons will cost approximately $445-495 per person. That is for the entire weekend, not per day!  If you have priced lessons recently,  you know what a bargain that is, especially given the quality of the instruction at Stowe Mountain Resort. Once the number of attendees is known, we will publish the exact cost of the lessons.

For questions, please contact Bryant George or call 475-209-5592.

Despite its size and variety, it rarely feels crowded because of its remote location and limited lift lines. The setting is a dramatic box canyon surrounded by 13,000- and 14,000-foot peaks. The views from the top of the mountain are some of the most stunning in North America.

The town of Telluride is a National Historic Landmark, full of Old West charm, with no chain stores and a walkable layout. The free gondola connects it to Mountain Village, offering a unique and scenic commute. You’ll see all types of people It feels like a real community, not just a resort town.

Thanks to its high elevation and dry Colorado air, Telluride gets over 300 inches of snow annually — and it’s often light, fluffy powder that skiers dream of. Storms stick to the San Juans and reward those who make the journey.

Beginners can enjoy wide-open, scenic runs, while advanced skiers have access to challenging terrain like Revelation Bowl, Gold Hill, and hike-to terrain like Palmyra Peak. It’s a true playground for every level.
