October Work Weekend 2025

11 members, two new to the work weekend, gave of their time to freshen up the Clubhouse for all the members before the snow flies.  Thanks to Mike Komoroske, Jim Geiger, Bill Romania, Ryan Sielis, Conrad Peters, Denise Hobson, Tony Calvagno, Carl Sanner, and Bill and Karen Simmons who joined yours truly to make it a fun and productive weekend.

There were the accomplishments of the regular, routine fall maintenance and cleaning as well as some much needed upgrades.  And some very good cooking to keep the troops well fed. read more 

Maple Ski Ridge Fall Fest 2025

On Saturday, October 11, dawn broke in the Rotterdam hills with frost on the ground and a decided fall chill in the air, but luck was with us as the sun broke out and created a beautiful fall day for the Maple Ski Ridge Fall Festival.

Schenectady Wintersports Club was the only ski club present to support Maple Ski Ridge with their Fall Festival which included a sizable craft fair and Auto Show. The Festival is critical to the annual funding of Maple Ski Ridge operations.   read more 

Unveiling SWC Historical Sign 2025

It’s going to be hard to match the events of October 2025 in November 2025, but I have no doubt SWC will do it. I do want to dedicate this message to the dedication of the Historical sign which will forever commemorate  the beginning of Alpine skiing at Yanatputchaberg.  read more 

Esther Whiteface Hike 2025

The northern terminus of the Long Path of New York is not well known by such a title. Instead it is better known as the highest commercial ski area in the northeast, 5th tallest mountain in New York, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics Downhill Skiing, home to the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) field station, Veteran’s Memorial Highway, and more! What a perfect spot to make the climax of a hiker’s journey north from the 176 St Station of the NYC Subway System – the southern terminus of the Long Path in New York City! read more 

90 Miler 2025

I had the wonderful opportunity to paddle this three-day race this year, my 9^th finish, with another Club member, Beverly Blinn-Knapp, her 3^rd finish. We trained very hard throughout the season, including practicing putting the wheels on and off in a timely manner, as well as carrying the boat. We both had very good fitness levels and made sure our nutrition was correct. We raced together most of the season and did several long paddles (4-6 hours). All of this hard work paid off. read more 

Rock and River August 2025

A handful of members took advantage of what could be the inaugural opportunity for a high peaks adventure at the historic Rock & River lodge in Keene NY.  Rock & River is a noted Adirondack climbing school with two classic guest lodges with very comfortable, modern accommodations in a secluded, majestic mountain valley.  “Open fields and mountain views surround each building with the gardens and apple trees of the original 1800’s homestead.” read more 

Steamboat 2025
The Schenectady Wintersports Club traveled to top-tier destination for skiing and winter sports. Known for its picturesque mountain town charm and legendary "champagne powder," Steamboat offered an exceptional skiing experience for all levels, from beginners to experts. We didn’t have overabundance “champagne powder” but did enjoy 5 sunny skiing days of skiing. read more
