90th Anniversary of the Snow Train -- March 2024

    A committee has been formed -- hosted in North Creek to plan events to help celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Snow Train March 4, 1934 -- March 4, 2024.

    A formal list of the events with dates and topics will be posted here

    But as a steal preview --- it starts Dec 8 & 9 at Tannery Pond Center in North Creek with showing the Warren Miller film, 

    PSSST!! Here are some other highlights that are in the planning stage:

    90th Anniversary Snow Train Logo, Sunday Coffee House meetings at Tannery Pond Center--some with live entertainment, popular talk on the Schenectady Force at Yantaputchaberg (Vincent Schaefer, Bill Gluesing and others of SWC) and their connection with the American Legion locals in North Creek following the '32 Olympics to cut ski trails on Gore and Pete Gay Mountains--anticipating trains, Story of the start of SWC om 1932 and the petitions to support Snow bound trains to Vermont (canceled due to snow drought in '32/'33, and the success in '33/'34, the story of the First Aid Committee (AKA Ski Patrol) in 1933 led by Lois Perret (Schaefer) and the subsequent Memorial Ski Patrol Award to members of the Gore Mountain Ski Patrol--being rekindled in 2024, plans for a SNOW TRAIN beer, plans for $19.34 meals to be sold in North Creek eateries, snow bound tours at the North Creek Ski Bowl and rope tow relics including the first rope tow '29 Buick of Carl Schaefer, popular talk with the Cunningham Family of North Creek -- elders were local movers and shakers for the Snow Train, Unveiling of a 1939 painting of a "birds-eye-view" of North Creek in the 1930s, Story of the Tenth (10th) Mountain Division skiers, 90 stories in 90 photos from the 1930s, Snow Train movies by Bill Gluesing of "Ride Up, Slide Down" fame, Gore Mountain involvement, North Creek Train Depot,  Johnsburgh Historical Society and many businesses in North Creek
