As I flip our calendar from August to September I find yet another month with something penciled in on nearly every day. This doesn’t, at all, sync with the retirement mug I received reading “Nothing to do, nothing to do what a happy thought.” Fall weather is refreshing and quite conducive to the outdoor chores and activities that have been postponed during the heat of the summer. In our immediate future, on Saturday September 6, SWC is gathering for our annual picnic and quarterly meeting. Everyone has received the invitation and it’s a very nice opportunity to gather and enjoy being out of doors.
Also on the 6th the Northern NY Paddlers will be launching, in the Adirondacks, to participate in the ADK Classic Challenge, affectionately known as the 90 miler.
On Thursday September 4, at Union College in Schenectady, a discussion of the book A Force For Nature authored by David Gibson will take place beginning at 5:30. The biography is described as essential reading for anyone interested in the history of Adirondack conservation and environmental politics as it is the story of the very active and effective conservationist - Paul Schaefer. I’m certain this will be an interesting read as there is such a deep connection to all Schaefer family history and SWC.
As always, be sure to check out the events tab on our website as there are several activities scheduled in the next months where volunteers are needed.
My best to all,
Karen
