I had the pleasure of meeting with John Rack, last week, and took possession of a treasure trove of documents reaching far back into the past of Mohawk Valley Hiking Club. I haven’t read it all, yet, but one of the files includes the original Articles of Incorporation signed by the founders of the Club. Also in the files are books of hiking songs. The first song in one of the books is entitled, appropriately, The Hiker’s Song. One of the verses is:
“We will climb up Yantaputchaberg
In the valley near old Dorp
And we’ll struggle up the Ralibone
Where the Plotterkill tumbles forth”
There are membership cards, hike reports and so much more. Thank you for preserving the records, John. This is more wonderful history for us to learn from.
