Why do I have to use specific versions of browsers ?

Browsers interpret code differently. When developing an application to support Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc., the developer must write code specific to the browser. What works in one browser may not work in the other browsers. What works in Internet Explorer will not always work in Firefox. Also, when browsers upgrade to new versions, this may also cause applications to break because code which worked in the previous versions may not work in the current version. This application is maintained on a volunteer basis and therefore upgrades to the application cannot always be completed at the same time upgrades to the browsers are released.
